About Jupiter, Florida

Jupiter is a truly breathtaking place in which to live for those desiring life with a touch of the salt water air. The area is known for its beach-like atmosphere, fishing and boating on both the Intracoastal and the ocean, and an abundant presence of quaint yet upscale mom-and-pop boutiques and shopping and dining opportunities. Jupiter certainly also boasts a strong economic element and a variety of moderately-priced to high end residential communities, both gated and un-gated, for homes, townhomes, condominiums, high-rises and beachfront properties alike.

Tourism is highly substantial for the town and always brings in those who truly known the area and about this relatively hidden gem of South Florida. Aside from the Florida Keys, it is assuredly a fabulous oceanfront community by which Jimmy Buffet would hang his hat. It is located in Palm Beach County, Florida and holds a population of just over fifty-five thousand. It is officially one of the northernmost suburbs of the Miami metropolitan area and was rated as the 9th Happiest Seaside Town in America by Coastal Living in 2012.

The town has a total area of approximately twenty square miles, with one square mile—not including the ocean-line—being pristine Jupiter water. As of late, there were over thirty thousand households, by which approximately twenty percent were vacant and available for immediate occupancy or for those simply looking to acquire property which rarely ever loses value. In 2010, twenty five percent of residences had children under the age of 18 living within them, and an estimated half of all properties housed married couples living together. The average household size is only two persons, with a family average of three. The median income for a household in Jupiter, as of the most recent census, was $54,945.

Jupiter's population is served by two public high schools, Jupiter Community High School located in Jupiter, and William T. Dwyer High School located in Palm Beach Gardens. Jupiter Christian School is a private school located also in the area. Since 1984, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue provides fire protection and emergency medical services to the citizens of  Jupiter. There are three fire stations assigned to the town. The Jupiter Police Department consists of 109 sworn officers and 23 civilian support staff personnel, and maintains its headquarters in the Town Hall. The department also has a volunteer Community Emergency Response Team, and sponsors a Police Explorer Post.

There are several points of interest within the area. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1973. Jupiter is home to Florida Atlantic University's MacArthur Campus. This northern campus of FAU is also the location of the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College. The Scripps Research Institute has opened a satellite campus adjacent to the MacArthur Campus of Florida Atlantic University in Jupiter. Approximately 360 scientists and technical staff operate in a 350,000-square-foot state of the art research facility. It is amazing how much the town of Jupiter truly has going for it!
